This little puppy was such a good use of my time.  I made this for my oldest’s 7th birthday and boy has it served its purpose and then some.  It has become our tradition to get the banner out whenever someone is celebrating a birthday, mom, dad, kids, and most recently for a friend’s 39th birthday.  Cupcakes and a happy birthday banner go a long way to make someone feel special!

This banner was made without sewing, because I guess I wasn’t in the mood at the time.  First thing I did was cut triangles out of felt.  I attached them to cross grain ribbon using fusible web tape.  I like felt because it doesn’t fray.  The letters are fabric scraps that I had lying around.  I used these because I wanted to give the banner more color.  You can mix it up any way you’d like.  I typed the letters HAPY BIRTD {no point in repeating letters} into Microsoft Word {because I am really low-tech}, chose a font and size that would work and printed it out.  Next I cut out the paper letters, then traced them onto the fabric, and then cut them out of my fabric.  I attached the fabric to the felt with fusible webbing (the sheet kind this time).  You can squeeze the letters onto the fusible web so you don’t waste it.  The letters do NOT have to be in order or even right side up.  I glued edging on the triangles for the word HAPPY, but decided against it on the word BIRTHDAY.  I love the colors and they work really well in our house.  This project is very similar to the No Sew Tablecloth because I did them both on the same day.  Hey when I get on a roll, I keep going.

I plan on making a few more because I think they would make fantastic birthday presents.  Maybe this time I won’t be so lazy and I’ll use my sewing machine.  Maybe.

I easily hang it with over sized push pins.
