My mom is constantly telling me that the bureau I have in my entrance way is the nicest piece of furniture in my house. She means it as a dig, as in, “None of the other furniture you have in your house is nice.” Which is fine, whatever!
She also knows that I paid only $25 for it, because she was with me when I bought it. It was during the two months that my husband, kids and I were homeless. Well, not really, but we had sold our old house and couldn’t move into our new one for two months. We lived with my in-laws. We moved in with them when my son was 5 weeks old and my younger daughter was 18 months. Crazy! I don’t know how we did it.
Anyway… My mom and I were walking down the street, cruising for yard sales, when we came across a yard sale and saw this bureau with a sign on it that said $50. I was definitely interested. There was also a scale I wanted. So I went up to the guy and was going to ask if I could have the dresser and scale for $50, but I guess he was expecting me to haggle because he immediately said I could have the dresser for $25!!! Awesome!! And my mom agreed to let me leave it at her house for two months because I had no where else to put it. Bonus. Oh, and it looked just like that I bought it. I didn’t have to do anything to it! Double bonus!!
So where is this town with such awesome yard sales? It’s a small beach town on the Jersey Shore called Ocean Grove. Most of the shops are on a 3 block stretch of Main Street, but there are always yard sales. Twice a year the town hosts a very popular flea market along with several craft shows. The flea market takes place on the grass stretch called Ocean Pathway.
If you’re ever in the area you should check it out!
