Last Minute Jake and the Nevern Land Pirates Party

March 26, 2013 by SmartGirl 3 Comments

My son is in LOVE with Jake and the Neverland Pirates.  Yesterday was his 4th birthday and it snowed all day here in New Jersey (on March 25!).  I was going to have some friends over to celebrate with him today, which was also my day to host our neighborhood playgroup, but my big plan was to keep everyone OUTSIDE.  Thanks to the snow, that wasn’t an option.  So in a classic procrastination/ freak out move I called Pump It Up (one of those indoor inflatable places) and booked a party for today.  Yes, I booked a party with less than 24 hours notice!  But you know what?  I had 28 kids show up!  It was a mix of playgroup, school friends, neighborhood and family friends.  And now it’s done!  Yay!

Obviously it was last-minute, so I searched for Jake and the Neverland Pirate cakes or cupcakes online.  There are some awesome cakes out there!  Too bad most were nothing I could DIY in about an hour.  But I did find these free cake topper printables from Disney’s Spoonful.com site.  Bonus – I even convinced my 11-year-old to cut them out for me!

Here’s what the cake looked like at the party… never land diy simple cheap how to make birthday party free printables

Here’s a shot right after I made it…

Here’s a shot of Jake and his mama, blowing out his 4 candle.  It gives you a good view of the back of the cake.  I attached the cutouts to lollipop sticks with glue dots.DIY never land free printables pump it up
Luckily I already had the treasure chest pinata (Hobby Lobby).  Today I went out and filled it with Jake and the Never Land Pirate fruit snacks (Shoprite), ring pops, eye patches/earrings (Party City), gold doubloons (Hobby Lobby), pink doubloons (Dollar Tree), necklaces (8/$1 @ Dollar Tree) and lollipops.

I placed bowls of Swedish Fish and Goldfish on the kids’ tables.  And decorated with red/black balloons and a pirate flag. Remember it was last-minute!Jake snacks
FYI – Party City, my local party goods store, does not carry now carries Jake and the Never Land Pirates plates and stuff.  Walmart does too.  You can get this nice deluxe set from Amazon as well.

If there are any of you who don’t know, Jake is a Disney Junior character.  Here is my son with Jake at Disney World’s Hollywood and Vine at Hollywood Studios.  He had a blast!!!

The outfit is from BJ’s Wholesale Club at Halloween time.  The hair/bandanna combo was purchased at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Magic Kingdom.  They now sell Jake and Izzy costumes at Walmart for $16.97. Or make your own costume with my tutorial, found here.

*Update: Have you seen these?  I wish they had them when my son was in his Duplo stage.  They would make great a birthday present!
