I always expected Nova Scotia to be beautiful, and it sure doesn’t disappoint. We are camping out at The Islands Provincial Park in Shelburne. One of my college teammates got married at the camp grounds yesterday. It was such an awesome wedding!
Around the corner is a bookshop called The Whirligig. We were admiring the display in the window when the owner walked up and greeted us. We talked to owners Bernie and David for at least 20 minutes. They were super friendly and gave us free post cards and these wind spinners for the kids. And when Bernie heard that my friend’s fiance was part Native Canadian, or Mi’kmaq, he ran inside the store and came out with a long breaded/beaded rope. He then told us a story about how he used to go to sleep away camp when he was a boy and his best friend was also Mi’kmaq. His friend had made this rope and Bernie held on to it for 45 years. He now wanted to give it to my friend for her a wedding present. Mind you, he had never met her, but I walked him over to the house she was staying in and he gave it to her. She ended up tying it around her bouquet for the wedding. So cool.
The bride took a boat over to the ceremony. Here are some pics of the beautiful wedding…
