Nova Scotia Wedding and Camping Out

August 4, 2013 by SmartGirl 3 Comments

I always expected Nova Scotia to be beautiful, and it sure doesn’t disappoint.  We are camping out at The Islands Provincial Park in Shelburne.  One of my college teammates got married at the camp grounds yesterday.  It was such an awesome wedding!

Wedding ideas
The drive up was… LONG.  But not bad.  I definitely want to take the ferry on the way back.  The kids were great.  Thank goodness for the DVD player!!
9 miles in I realized I forgot the passports, so we had to turn around.  We left (for the second time) around 10pm.  Hubby did most of the driving and I slept.  Woke up early in the morning and we were in Maine.  It POURED rain the whole drive up.  Where does one stop at 6:20am?  A random Lowe’s in Maine, of course!  I was freaking out because we didn’t bring any tarps.
This is our camp site.
We’re glad we brought our stand up paddle boards.  We launched them right from the campgrounds.  In case you were going to ask… we bought the pink board here and the striped one here.  We’ve been having a blast with them.

This is the historic town of Shelburne.
Our favorite place to eat was The Beandock, mainly because it served Farmers ice cream, but also because it was on the water and it had an awesome swing outside.
My favorite flavor is Death by Chocolate, and I don’t usually even eat ice cream!

There was an awesome farmers market in the bottom of this “building” yesterday.

Around the corner is a bookshop called The Whirligig.  We were admiring the display in the window when the owner walked up and greeted us.  We talked to owners Bernie and David for at least 20 minutes.  They were super friendly and gave us free post cards and these wind spinners for the kids.  And when Bernie heard that my friend’s fiance was part Native Canadian, or Mi’kmaq, he ran inside the store and came out with a long breaded/beaded rope.  He then told us a story about how he used to go to sleep away camp when he was a boy and his best friend was also Mi’kmaq.  His friend had made this rope and Bernie held on to it for 45 years.  He now wanted to give it to my friend for her a wedding present.  Mind you, he had never met her, but I walked him over to the house she was staying in and he gave it to her.  She ended up tying it around her bouquet for the wedding.  So cool.

The bride took a boat over to the ceremony.  Here are some pics of the beautiful wedding…

And here you go, my one DIY contribution… I wrapped those blue table cloths around crates under the flowers because I couldn’t stand the way they looked with the crates showing.  🙂
