Thrift Shopping at the Shore

August 18, 2013 by SmartGirl Leave a Comment

It was a beautiful sunny day and we are at my mom’s beach house for the weekend, so what did we do today?  Drive around thrift shopping of course!  It’s waaaay too crowded on the beach anyway.  🙂  Smart Jr. and I even took my mom with us.Thrift shopping at Salvation Army - Asbury Park

1st Stop – Salvation Army in Asbury Park.  We don’t have any Salvation Army stores near us, so this was a treat.  I know this store well, as most of my pre-marriage furnishings came from this store.  We hit the mother load, scoring two fantastically retro lawn chairs that will look great outside my new vintage camper trailer.  99 cents each!

And a simple Tupperware container.  Also for the camper.  Did I tell you I am newly obsessed with vintage Tupperware?  Yeah, I am.  So if you find some, feel free to send it my way.  It started last week when Smart Jr. and I were at Goodwill and I found this container with a weird insert.  I pondered on it for a while… thought about a huge butter dish and then it hit me…  “This darn thing is a Velveeta cheese container!”  We googled it when we got home and ding, ding, ding, I was right!

I also bought this cabinet for $6.99.  Not sure where it’s going to go, but it’s cute and old and we could all use a little extra wall storage in our lives.  Actually, it will look really cute above the potty in the guest bath.Salvation Army cabinet for $6.99

I got this rocking chair for $9.99 and see a coat of bright paint in its future, despite gripes from the hubby about painting over nice wood.  I kinda like the fabric, but not enough to keep it.  Plus we’ve got so much fabric lying around it will be easy to cover it.

When I went back to pick up the chair I saw this smaller sized desk with hutch and bought it too.  $25.  It’s wired for a light and has a cork board backing.  Now I’ve got to go back and get that.  🙂

I showed my daughter the pic when I got home and she was so not impressed.  “Eeew! Yuck!”  I believe were her words.  But then I showed her this picture… and she loves this desk from Delightful Deets.  Go figure.

Since I already hit up the local Goodwill last night, and bought 2 books, we decided to round out the day with a stop at my new favorite store… Green Street Consignment.  L.O.V.E it!!  It was like shopping at a boutique with Goodwill prices.

I bought myself this skirt.  It’s cuter in real life.

Good night!  I’m going to bed.
