Happy first day of winter everyone! If you live anywhere near me, in South Jersey, you were getting a taste of spring, definitely NOT winter. The temperature was hovering around 70 and I am definitely not complaining. Nothing like a nice excuse to be outside. This was my backyard this afternoon.Compared to two weeks ago, when my yard looked like this.
Crazy, huh? Well I took full advantage this afternoon and finally planted some fall bulbs. Yes, that’s right, I procrastinated just long enough to officially plant my fall bulbs on the first day of winter. It’s better than last year, when I didn’t plant the bulbs at all and had to throw them in the compost come spring time. These should be fine, although I’ve never planted fall bulbs, so I’m certainly no expert.
I bought my trusty bulb planter from a yard sale last year and I love it. I never finished (of course) but I did start organizing my shed this fall and this is what the door looks like.
I bought these four bags of bulbs for 50% off at Lowe’s a few months back. I’m questioning my selection process now though. Really, two different color pink tulips???
I dug the holes and my handsome little helper put the bulb in.
Then I filled in the dirt and he stomped on the hole. What a team we make!
We planted some tulips and the allium right by the street in our newest flower bed. You can read about the making of this garden bed here or read all my garden posts from this year here.
Hubby enjoyed the outdoors today too. He replaced our ugly old house #s with ones I bought 4 years ago and have never gotten around to putting up. Oops!
But let me leave you with this wintry image in honor of the 1st day of winter. This was my crazy husband two weeks ago. He strapped on some cross-country skis and pulled our two younger kids in a sled over to a friends’ house. Doesn’t seem like New Jersey, huh?
