Happy Almost Easter!

April 19, 2014 by SmartGirl 5 Comments

Things have been a little extra crazy around here this week.  My kids had off Tuesday and 1/2 day Thursday, then spring break started yesterday.  Hubby left for Bahrain Thursday night, pretty unexpectedly, so that left me alone with the kids for 10 days of “vacation”.  I think I’m doing a pretty good job so far.  Yesterday we went to Sahara Sam’s Indoor Water Park, then had an impromptu party at our house.  I was more than happy to get opinions on my family room project and to show off the new board and batten.  My brother and BFF and their families didn’t bat an eyelash at the fact that about half the rooms in my house are completely torn apart.  They know that’s how I roll.  My brother’s only complaint… that I didn’t have the heat turned on.   I did a week ago, but enough is enough with this cold weather!  BTW – I was NOT happy about the SNOW earlier this week.

I got a few things done around here, like installing hooks on the new board and batten walls.Hooks up on board and batten wallI used these small ones from Lowe’s because the hallway is so narrow.  I like that they are a double hook, but still don’t take up much room.  They don’t hold as much stuff, which is perfect!  There won’t be as much crap hanging in the hall.  We each have our own hook, even hubby, who didn’t have one under our old system.  I did put a ban on him hanging is giant winter jacket on there, because we wouldn’t be able to walk down the hall!Perfect hooks from Lowes for my board and battenI haven’t decided on art work for that wall, but I did get some pictures up on the wall across from it.  And OMG do I hate that family picture.  So not us!  But that makes it so funny.  🙂One wall of pictures up above board and batten in hallwayI guess my biggest accomplishment was painting Lulu’s room.  The one major bummer is that it’s almost exactly the same color it was before.  Sucks.  I’ve listened to her complain for years about how turquoise is not her favorite color, it’s MY favorite color.  Well I told her she could pick any color she wanted and she chose… turquoise.  She really wants a nature themed room and she thinks I’m going to paint trees on the walls (we’ll see) so she wanted a blue sky for the background.  Whatever.  At least it’s finally painted.Lulu's bedroom painted but still no carpetYou see the light sitting on the bed? That’s the one hubby swore to me he would put up before he left.  Hmmm.  Lulu loves the light so much she’s brought everyone upstairs yesterday to look at sitting on her bed.  It’s the IKEA SMILA SOL light and it’s $29.99.  I had to do a little rehab on the windowsill before I could paint, but it’s all finished now.  Yay. Damaged windowsillI also sold this cradle on Facebook for $50.  I bought it for Lulu’s room at a garage sale last year, but we decided it was way too big.  We were just going to use it for baby dolls.  The thing is hand made and its new owners were very excited to get it.  I was very excited to get it out of my house!sold this crib on facebookToday has been pretty DIY free, unfortunately for my house.  But I did take the little ones on a hike after we dropped Smart Jr. off at a Girl Scout camp event.Hiking with the kidsThey were thrilled to find an outdoor stage to perform on.Kids performing on an outdoor stageThen it was home to die Easter eggs on the back porch.Time to die the Easter eggs with the kiddosDying Easter eggs on the back porchPutting stickers on Easter eggsWe’re getting up EARLY tomorrow to drive to Grandma’s for Easter, so I’d better get to bed.  I hope you have a great holiday!

Ha. I want to do a few whole posts in your house. Start digging out your before pictures! It’s funny bc 99% of the comments I get on here are from people I’ve never met in person. One day a family member (other than hubby) will leave a comment. One day!

Aww…glad your husband can read your blog from afar. 😀

I can relate to torn up and messy rooms. It is driving me a little coo-coo. I love that sun light form Ikea. I used it in my son’s bathroom. Your daughter will love it in her room. She is going to have her own nature paradise. 😀 Enjoy your “vacation” and try to have some down time before you start another project. lol 😉
